10 Ways I Get in the Holiday Spirit

To be honest, I am always in the holiday spirit. I will sneak in Mariah Carey's All I Want for Christmas is You into any party playlist no matter what time of year and believe me, it is always a hit! My tree is up, I've had at least 5 peppermint mochas in every holiday cup Starbucks is offering and all my shopping is done. So consider this post how to get on level this holiday season and have 25 full days of cheer. I am sharing how I am celebrating, creating new memories and sharing lifelong traditions this December!
-
1. Village Lights- Fa la la la la! The Village lights is like the Zoo Lights but IRL.
This is such a fun way to kick off the holiday season, walking around enjoying the historic town and . I have to admit my decor showed up a day late (I blame those black Friday deals!) so consider this a formal apology to my neighbors for slacking on holiday decor this year. Oh yeah, remember those monogramed holiday cups from Emily McCarthy I was raving about on instagram? Yep, those were filled with wine!

2. Christmas Caramels: Hi, I'm a tease this is not a recipe link. My mom and grandma have been making caramels the day after Thanksgiving for as long as I can remember. I'm sure the story goes beyond anything that I can remember but it's one I plan on continuing. I started making my own batch of caramels in college and it is one of my favorite traditions. The caramel cooks for about six hours on the stove but the best (and longest) part is hand cutting and wrapping each piece in pink foil with a Christmas movie marathon. The candy is then handed off to friends, teachers, delivery men and women, hair dressers and anyone who makes my life run smoothly 12 months out of the year and this is when I finally thank them.

3. John Legend Concert: A Legendary Christmas is coming to the Palace Theatre and I'll be there with bells on. Can I just say I purchased these tickets the hour they came out while I was laying on the beach during our honeymoon. Remember when I said I am always in the Christmas spirit? Since purchasing the tickets the Christmas album has come out and I have to admit I am not the biggest fan. The album strays from the Christmas classics and features mostly originals. As much as I enjoyed Chrissy's instagram while John was writing and producing this album, I'm more of Michael Bublé classic kind of gal. Regardless this is going to be a night of holiday cheer that will be kicked off with a very dirty martini. A stiff drink is a requirement if I have to listen to my husbands favorite joke about John Legend was the second best person to graduate from his high school....

4. Martini's & Mistletoe- The Athletic Club of Columbus hosts this fun and festive party each year. The large historical downtown building makes for the perfect backdrop for a gorgeous holiday party. I'm going to complain for a second, the party is always on a Thursday and for a gal who can't say no to a martini, it makes for a very rough Friday work day! P.S. If you are a young professional here in Columbus I highly recommend looking into the ACC. It is a great place to meet new people and get involved.

5. Holiday Cards- I have to say, post wedding is the perfect time to get your shit together once and for all with holiday cards. I purchased this May Designs holiday address book and used our wedding RSVPs to make our list complete with updated addresses (one of the few places I used pencil!). I can't wait to show you which wedding photo I chose to put in our Dixie- Design holiday card. More to come but I did want to note this was the first time I used Dixie-Design, there was a tiny snafu and the way their team swooped into to fix it earned me as a client for life!

6. Christmas Tree- This is the first and last time I purchase a real tree. Send me your favorite pine scented candles!!
-
7. Nutcracker- Nothing is more magical than The Nutcracker. Support Balletmet by attending the performance at the iconic Ohio Theatre. Make it a holiday date night or a ladies lunch followed by a matinee performance.
-
8. Cookies- Obviously there needed to be a cookie nod! Christmas is the time decorated cookies get the the spotlight they deserve and if you want to step up your own decorating game you can purchase my book, A Cookie to Celebrate and then proceed to DM me with all your questions! Personally I'm holding out for my mom's Christmas staples. Chocolate chip meringues, seven layer bars, peanut butter kiss cookies and classic chocolate chip. Last year she decided to scale back her baking and let's just say I don't think she'll make that mistake again! I'm one of four kids and we take our treats seriously!
-
9. Raclette- Add this Swiss tradition to your holidays because I don't know anything better than pouring melted cheese over your dinner. My Grandma started this tradition in our family years ago having to special order the cheese. Now with booming popularity raclette cheese is easily available and the cookers make a great gift!

10. Wedding Ornaments: In case you missed it, I got married in June! One of the most personal and fun details of our destination wedding were the welcome boxes. Our event planner, Amy of Alchemy Styled, executed our vision impeccably creating white enamel ornaments with our initials, wedding date, and The Greenbrier's famous spring house. The best part? 6 months later and we're receiving texts from wedding guests hanging the ornaments and reliving all the happy memories!
